Despite having multiple rounds of physical therapy for my muscular disease and knee replacement, my muscles, especially my legs and hips, remained weak. After spending the day at Disney World and ending up in a wheelchair after only a few hours, I was determined to find a way to change things.

I looked for physical fitness trainers online and spoke to a few. None gave me the answers I was looking for. I reluctantly looked up physical therapy, although I didn’t have a lot of confidence this was the answer. I spotted Peak Fitness & Rehab. I was impressed that they had physical therapy and fitness training in the same house. After speaking to Desiree on the phone and hearing what I hoped would be the answer I was looking for so I went in to meet them.

I spoke with Dave, he explained what I was looking for and he was positively confident he could make a difference for me. I decided to take a chance and signed up for 3 months. Any reservations I had were dispelled with my first training session. Dave knew exactly how to get my muscles retrained to work properly, then proceeded to make them stronger.  Each session improved my ability to go further and longer. The Pilates helped stretch out my muscles as well as increased my core strength. At the 2 month mark, I went to Kennedy Space Center and I\lasted 10 hours on my feet, no cane, no wheelchair, just deliciously tired. My endurance has improved so much I still can’t believe it. My muscles hurt less and are so much stronger I no longer need help lifting or doing any of the many chores around the house.

Having the combined knowledge of fitness and physical therapy gave me the answers my body needed to get better. I now work out at home 6 days a week and feel better than ever. “I started working with Desiree in 2010, 3 months before I was to have my left knee replaced.  This had a fantastic impact on the success of my surgery.  The surgeon could not believe the amount of flexibility I had in my knee the day after the surgery.

In June 2015 I had my right knee replaced. I had let myself get into bad shape.  Rehabilitation was much more difficult not having the opportunity to work out with Desiree before the surgery.  I made a commitment to myself that would get myself back into shape following my rehab.  September 2015 I started working with Desiree three times a week.

I have not felt this strong in many years.  The professionalism and care that I have received at Peak Fitness and Rehab has been fantastic.  All the training is totally personalized. “I am sitting in my doctor’s office waiting for my annual physical.  I am not anxious, I am excited.  One year ago that was not the case.  My visit ended with a prescription for physical therapy for both knees and a strong request to lose 30-40 pounds.
My next stop was Peak Fitness & Rehab—physical therapy for my knees.  They were highly recommended in the community for helping others.  I initially ignored the 30-40 pounds part of the prescription.  Dave and Desiree Challice recommended an overall assessment which I agreed would provide a good starting point.  As we talked, I became convinced that they could also help
me with a healthy way to reduce my weight and develop habits to maintain my weight at a healthy level.  So, on April 1st it began. By September 30th, I had reached my new weight goal, 35 pounds down from my starting point.  More importantly, I had developed healthy eating habits that were sustainable.  In September, I participated in a 4 mile hike in the mountains of North Carolina—the trail was designated “strenuous” by the National Park Service.  I carried 20 pounds of photography gear in
a backpack.  This was not possible six months earlier. I would have missed this beautiful waterfall and the opportunity to photograph it. “As I have been getting older, my weight has been increasing my strength and flexibility have been decreasing.  Additionally, I was getting debilitating leg and body muscle cramps that I could not control. I tried going to the gym 4 days a week, but I was unable to make any meaningful progress.  I considered using a personal trainer, but was skeptical, as the many of the trainer’s clients didn’t seem to be making progress either.

I decided to join Peak Fitness and Rehab after seeing the great results my friend had.  He was overweight and had badly hurt his shoulder.  The doctors told him he needed to give to up golf.  I ran into him again about 6 months later on the driving range.  He looked fantastic.  He said he had lost about 40 ponds and regained mobility in his shoulder and was playing golf again.  He told me about working out at Peak Fitness and had participated in the 28 day KICK START.  I thought if he could lose all that weight and regain mobility, so could I.  I decided to give Peak Fitness and Rehab a try.

Dave and Desiree are fantastic.  Desiree is a licensed physical therapist and certified Pilates instructor.  Dave is a certified personal trainer and Titleist certified golf fitness instructor.  They are exceptionally well qualified and professional, so they really know what they are doing.

Dave and Desiree developed a customized program for me focused on developing my core strength and flexibility.  The results have been amazing.  Although weight loss was not my primary goal, I also participated in the weight loss KICK START program. During my first 3 months at Peak Fitness, I lost 40 pounds.  My debilitating muscle cramps are completely gone and my flexibility has dramatically improved.  As an added bonus, I have now added an extra 10 yards a club to my golf game, which I attribute to my increased strength and flexibility.  The benefit is that I now have a physical conditioning and weight loss program that actually works.

“I saw an ad for a “Golf Assessment” at Peak Fitness & Rehab and thought this might be good for my husband who had developed back pain along his right side since taking up golf.  He met and talked with Dave, who explained to him that after 40+ years at a desk job, then taking up golf in retirement with no exercise routine beforehand, it was no wonder he had back pain.  So he decided to try an evaluation.  I was also suffering from back pain, and had spent more than a year first with a chiropractor, then acupuncture, and physical therapy and had made no progress, so I also did the evaluation.  The results of those evaluations led us both to begin a training program at Peak Fitness & Rehab, and by the end of the first month our back pain was virtually gone.  We are now believers in strength training and stretching.  We also did the Take Down Challenge and after losing some weight, we are
